Mosquitoes are a common nuisance in Tuvalu, particularly in the capital city of Fusi Alofa. The warm and humid climate of this small island nation provides the perfect breeding grounds for these pesky insects. Mosquito populations tend to peak during the rainy season, which runs from November to April, leading to increased biting activity.

Year round mosquito forecast

In addition to being a nuisance, mosquitoes in Tuvalu also pose a significant health risk to the local population. The most concerning aspect of the mosquito situation in Fusi Alofa is the prevalence of mosquito-borne diseases. Diseases such as dengue fever, Zika virus, and chikungunya are all transmitted by mosquitoes and have been reported in Tuvalu in recent years.

Efforts to control the mosquito population and reduce the spread of mosquito-borne diseases in Tuvalu have been challenging due to limited resources and infrastructure. Public health campaigns focused on mosquito prevention, such as eliminating standing water where mosquitoes breed and using insect repellent, have been implemented to educate and protect the local community. However, more work is needed to effectively combat this ongoing issue.
